Call me old-fashioned, but I kind of thought the idea that you measured what happened on your website with web analytics and made decisions accordingly was pretty established practice in 1996. It does genuinely worry me that this piece appeared on a website that I love for the way it champions news innovation. An analytics dashboard isn't innovation, it is "Webmaster 101"

...which goes a little way to redressing the upset I had when he wrote this a couple of days earlier. I think it is really quite unfair to extrapolate one social media policy and then assume an entire industry behaves that way. If he had read The Guardian's social media guidelines for journalists instead, would he have extrapolated that to "Wow, newspapers know their social stuff!"
