Tags and talks
Yesterday we published the second part of our series "Tags are magic!" on the Guardian's new Developer Blog. Written by myself and Peter Martin, this part covers how we are able to put our keyword tags into folders to generate taxonomical relationships, or give tags parent/child relationships. This allows tags to be auto-suggested at the point of content creation, and to provide dynamic topic based navigation based on volumes of content rather than manual intervention.
As well as publishing on the Developer Blog, I have a couple of talking appearances coming up next week. On the 26th I'll be in my old stomping ground of Leeds, talking at the Leeds Community News Hub. I'll be talking about information architecture, usability testing, and the transformation of journalism to be more inclusive of audience participation. The hub is based in Leeds Trinity University College, and the event starts at 1pm. It is free and open to all, and you can sign up here.
On the 27th I'll be back in London and presenting an updated version of my "No more 'us and them': How 20 years of digital communications smashed the boundaries between media and audience" internally at Kings Place for Guardian staff. And then on Friday 28th, I'll be talking at a breakfast event hosted by PublicZone, alongside ex-BBC colleagues Julie Dodd and Steve Rogers, who is Head of User Experience for Google Europe.
