Fantastic bit of linkbait from the Guardian Datablog which has drawn out the lurking anorak's into a comment thread frenzy of corrections and pedantry. Love it - and contrary to various rumours on Twitter - I had *nothing* to do with it. Even if Datablog maestro Simon Rogers sits in my line of site and I've been silently mouthing the words "Doctor Who spreadsheet" for months now every time I see him ;-)

If you don't put in the work to root out the weeds (abusive commenters), you won't get the vegetables (cogent commenters) to flourish. The Sun Chronicle's recently announced policy [of charging users to comment] roots out the weeds by digging up the entire garden."
