There seems to be some 'us-vs-them' in the responses to how *your* design gets implemented right. In my experience, not having 'us-vs-them' with the developers is one of the key ways of making sure *the* design gets implemented right.

"As you can see above, people almost always focus in on faces, breasts and genital areas". And also the blocky call-to-action in the top right-hand corner of the Guardian Jobs site as well it transpires. Imagine how much more focus that would get if we put a picture of faces, breasts or genitals there :-)

"I spoke to my editor who told me that if someone asks us to keep something out of the paper we HAVE to make sure it goes in".

"At the end of July the Guardian held an internal hackday at their offices in King's Cross. They invited two engineers from BBC Radio's A&Mi department, Chris Lowis and David Rogers. We teamed up with Leigh Dodds & Ian Davis from Semantic Web specialists, Talis to produce an 'Interactive-MP-Media-Appearance-Timeline' by mashing up data from BBC Programmes and the Guardian's website."

"Sources indicate that TfL’s report also looked to establish what route an extension would likely take, performing a cost/traffic/benefit analysis of a number of options and that, broadly speaking, it recommended three possible options, with London Underground’s own in-depth assessment concurring with TfL’s findings."

"We don't use new media to get into verbal fisticuffs with rivals" - which isn't to say that verbal fisticuffs with rivals can't be an entertaining, if ill-advised, diversion during the day ;-)

"Something I picked up via mobile phone body the 160 characters association is this stat that the global mobile / cellphone audience will have passed four billion - or two thirds of the planet - by the end of this year". And guess what, they aren't all bloody iPhones you know, despite what you'd think from the press coverage.

"THE council is remaining tight-lipped over the controversial appointment of former Labour spin doctor Joe Derrett as a media relations manager. Mr Derrett, a former head of the London Labour Party press team, will begin his new role next month". A Labour council appointing a Labour head of media relations? Fancy that, it must be a local election year coming up.
Hi Martin
Thanks for your post, and the photos too. It's good to see that festivals haven't changed to much in my few years of absence.
I really identify with what you say about how things have changed since 89. Back then I had a tape player and loads of dubbed tapes where I couldn't remember the names of the songs, nor cared. These days I get upset if I don't know the release date of a track down to the exact year. Not to mention being fully tagged with Genre, Artist and Album so I can search for it in my iPhone.
I also have a enviable collection of videos from the early camera phones, one of my favorites is the Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters playing My Hero. Even back in 2006 my phone could take 50m of video but back in 89 that would've required a VHS far too big to smuggle in to a concert.
Thanks for the chance to reminisce.
