Wow, the tickets for the Mini-IA conference we are hosting at The Guardian sold out in less than 9 minutes.

"There's only so much value in people being talked at again and again by swivel-eyed neophiles like myself. Sometimes is much more powerful when people actually using this stuff on the ground get up and do it". This swivel-eyed neophile agrees.

Why sir, I doff my cap in admiration at your linkbait ;-)
-
"A dedicated reader of a West Midlands daily newspaper has bequeathed £11,000 in her will to the title". Is this possible alternative business model opportunity for regional titles?
-
Great article, until I got to this bit: "An impressive 82 per cent of UK adults read local newspapers, a level of penetration matched by no other medium except television". Are you sure? I think RAJAR might disagree with you - a quick look at their figures suggested radio had 90% adult population reach in December 2008.

"If we suppose that newsrooms will continue to exist (perhaps some crowd-funded, perhaps some foundation or charity-supported, perhaps some run as a hobby while we farm the barren, carbon-ruined land by night) will they be split as broadcasters and news publications?"
-
The headline is a nonsense that looks to have been concocted for SEO and linkbait purposes - frankly you might as well ask whether the telephone is lazy journalism or whether the pencil and notepad is lazy journalism. The piece itself though is well worth reading.

"Guardian::OpenPlatform::API is module which simplifies access to the Guardian's OpenPlatform content API". Dave Cross increases my ability to use the Guardian Open Platform by around 1000%. Providing I can remember how to install libraries etc etc...
-
One of a series of useful posts about how to exploit the stuff in The Guardian data store using free online tools that require virtually zero understanding of computer programming
-
"The Open Platform launch event presentation was given to media, launch partners, developers and friends of the Guardian at Guardian headquarters in London on Tuesday, 10 March, 2009". Here are the slides from The Guardian's Open Platform launch.
-
"Uefa has claimed that moving the Champions League final away from Rome after last night's trouble in the Italian capital would make fans less safe". UEFA spokesman effectively shrugs his shoulders at more football violence in Rome, and says that 76 days notice is not enough time to put the necessary security measures in place for the game.

"Telegraph: all fine as of 3pm - This used to say 'you must not deep-link to ... any part of the Site without our prior written consent.' But within 5 hours of my pointing this out on twitter, they had deleted it! So no problems there now..."
2 good bits of linkbait there. I have been looking at which posts on certain journalism blogs generate comments so we can create some 'commentbait' posts for College of Journalism, er, should it ever be required.
My current favourite would be 'BBC Trust finds BBC biased towards Israel' although 'Jade Goody interprets the Balen Report' might run it close.
You must have a pretty good view of other commentbait keywords in the new job...
