Suspending comments in Movable Type whilst on holiday
by Martin Belam, 11 November 2003
I came back from holiday today to find a comments system chocked up with viagra spam, idle spats of anonymous users calling me "ass hole", idiot kids trying to get me to help them download MSN messenger or do their homework on the London Congestion Charge, people defending David Blaine, and repeated callings of the comment script by voldak4@aol.com
All of which made me firstly think how if I get this level of comment hassle, then people who actually get visitors in numbers must be near to having to employ moderators. And secondly, made me resolve to work out a way to switch comments off for the whole site for two weeks next time I am on holiday.
If you can find a way to stop spam comments and switch off comment while away let me know!
Pills, degrees or a bigger knob anyone?
You might want to give MT-Blacklist a try. It claims to be a movable type plug-in that blocks spam. I haven't used it myself yet, as I haven't really had enough spam comments yet for it to be worth what looks like the minimal effort required.
MT is the best blog software ever but it's not even a bit spam free, you should disable url posting.
That's one answer, but I *want* people to be able to post useful linkable urls like Yanda above
